Paerangi Project – Stage Three Participants Announced!
Paerangi Project offers accessible learning about how to develop your own short film or web series. It is for new and emerging talent and encourages making screen stories in your own backyard.
Paerangi Project was a development programme designed to reach fresh, distinctive and authentic voices across Aotearoa. The programme was for those interested in developing a short film or web series who live outside the main centres, in remote regions, or those who are isolated from opportunities to learn about filmmaking. Paerangi Project offered accessible learning with Stage One and Stage Two delivered online. Participants were given the knowledge and tools needed to develop exceptional short film or web series projects.
Paerangi was delivered in 2021 and completed in February 2022. The video tutorials are now available to everyone.
STAGE ONE – VIDEO TUTORIALS – Open to all eligible registrants
Registering for Stage One gave access to a series of video tutorials delivered by experienced filmmakers. The tutorials lead viewers through the process of developing their own concept including writing, directing, producing and pitching, and gave homework exercises. Doing the homework created the materials you needed to submit for Stage Two, therefore Stage Two applicants must have completed Stage One. To know if you were eligible for Paerangi, you could check out this information sheet. Registrants were welcome to only participate in Stage One with no intention of applying to Stage Two and Three.
STAGE TWO – MENTORSHIP – Up to 12 teams selected
Participants who registered for Stage One were invited to apply for a six-week online mentorship with an experienced filmmaker who guided them as they refined their short film or web series project. Applicants had to apply as a team of at least two, to fulfil the roles of writer, director, and producer. Stage One guided participants on how to go about finding team members.
STAGE THREE – DEVELOPMENT LAB – Up to 4 teams selected
The teams who took part in Stage Two were invited to apply for a three-day residential development lab. Up to four teams were selected to travel to Auckland to develop their project even further and receive tailored script feedback, directing mentoring, and producing advice from industry mentors. The development lab was designed to get the team ready to apply for funding or crowdfund so they can go on to make their project. However, because of Covid-19 restrictions, the development lab was presented online.
