Story Camp Aotearoa is a residential feature film workshop that fosters craft, voice and vision. Talented NZ screenwriters and filmmakers workshop their projects with exceptional international and local advisors.
This December Script to Screen pilots Story Camp Advanced, a workshop for creative teams with feature film projects close to production. If awarded a place, a workshop process will be crafted around the specific needs of your project and team: harnessing momentum, strengthening a collective vision, pulling the team together around the heart of the story, and preparing for the journey ahead with clarity.
The process will include a mixture of one-on-one, team, and larger group sessions with advisors, and may include packaging and casting strategy; interfacing with market partners; strengthening and clarifying the directors’ vision; directing performance; read-throughs; how to re-write with clarity for cast, market input or budget constraints; making good decisions together under pressure. Advisors will be secured depending on project requirements and will include production, business and creative expertise.
Writer, director, producer teams planning to go into production with a feature in 2019 can apply. Other team members can be nominated to attend parts of the workshop if that best serves the project – such as a DoP, editor or production designer. The project can be in advanced development or have production finance in place.
Independent (non-NZFC) projects are eligible if there is a viable plan for finance.
Past international advisors have included legendary US screenwriter Joan Tewkesbury (MCCABE & MRS. MILLER, THIEVES LIKE US and NASHVILLE) filmmaker & Artistic Director of the Sundance Directors’ Lab Gyula Gazdag, Hollywood writer & longstanding Sundance mentor Michael Goldenberg (HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX), Academy Award and BAFTA winning screenwriter David Seidler (THE KING’S SPEECH), and revolutionary Mexican screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga (AMORES PEROS, 21 GRAMS, BABEL).
If you are unsure about eligibility or have any other questions, please feel free to email or call us at the Script to Screen office.
